The Department of Surgical Dentistry was established within the Faculty of Dentistry and Medical Technologies at St. Petersburg State University in October 2010, following its separation from the Department of Dentistry (Rector's Order No. 2426/1 of 18 October 2010 'On the Establishment of Departments').
The Department was renamed in accordance with Rector’s Order No. 4070/1 of 14 November 2011 'On the Renaming of the Department of Surgical Dentistry at St. Petersburg State University to the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery'.
