Previously, the discipline 'Dermatovenerology' was taught at the Department of Infectious Diseases, Epidemiology, and Dermatovenerology. For 9 years, the department was headed by Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Igor Gorlanov. In 2007, Professor Irina Smirnova, Doctor of Medical Sciences, was appointed Head of the Department. The department’s current academic staff comprises 3 associate professors and 2 teaching assistants. 5 members of staff hold degrees of a doctor or candidate of medical sciences.
The clinical training facility for the Department of Dermatovenerology and Cosmetology is the 'St Petersburg City Dermatovenerologic Dispensary '(GorKVD). This is the largest institution in North-West of Russia for treating patients with dermatoses and sexually transmitted infections (STIs). GorKVD was established in 1959 on the basis of the former Dermatovenerologic Dispensary No. 17 of the Leninsky District following the closure of the Republican Skin and Venereological Institute. In 1978, it was reorganised into an independent institution and included a 50-bed inpatient ward. The chief physicians of GorKVD have been V. Olekhnovich, Z. Polyakova, N. Kulikova, and T. Smirnova. Since 2019, GorKVD has been headed by Candidate of Medical Sciences Yana Kabushka, a physician of the highest qualification category specialising in 'Public Health and Healthcare Management'.
